Pillowcases for Children's Hospital, Part 3

Hello Blog Friends,

What does candy, baseball caps, cats, dogs, and the circus have in common?  They make up the final installment of pillowcases that will be going for donation to Children's Hospital.  Enjoy!

This one in my absolute favorite.  Love the circus print and the coordinating stripe fabric!

I've shifted focus now to another UFO...the scrapbook of our Chicago trip that I've been working on for over a year!  It's time to get the pages done, get them in an album, and get it off the UFO list.

Until next time....

Pillowcases for Children's Hospital, Part 1

Hello Blog friends!

This year I am once again making pillowcases for donation.  This year's recipient is Children's Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.  Earlier this year my grandson Corey was seriously ill and was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes.  He spent a couple of touch-and-go days in the hospital.  While he was there, he received a pillowcase that someone had made and donated.  He was and is very proud of his pillowcase!  The doctors, nurses, and staff took very good care of Corey, and as a small token of thanks, I have been making pillowcases to donate to other sick children.  I hope those who receive them will love them as much as I do!

Denis and I are planning to attend the Quilt Expo in Madison in just a couple of weeks.  We also will drop off the pillowcases at Children's that day.

There are 10 pillowcases for donation this year.  During the year, I am always on the lookout for suitable fabric prints for children's pillowcases.  Here is part 1 of this year's selection:
The white band is a tone on tone numbers print.

The band is a deep purple floral print.

More pillowcases in tomorrow's post.  Until then...

Pillows

Hello fellow Bloggers!

Remember those curtains I made for Kristy's boys?  There was a little extra fabric from each four pieces, so simple throw pillow covers (for 14" x 14" pillow forms) were made from each one.  These pillows are for four active boys ages 8-11, so they were simply made with a removable cover for laundering.  I didn't take photographs of the finished pillows, but just to refresh your memory, here are the fabrics they chose (one more time):

I gave them to the boys last weekend.  They loved them.

As you can see, I've been busy the past few weeks.  One more UFO crossed off the list!

Until next time...

Dino Dreams

Hello Bloggers!

Here is the promised photo of "Dino Dreams".  I thought all pieces in this ensemble turned out well.  I've included the quilt, two pillowcases and a pillow.  I've found a book in my own personal collection that fits well with this group, and I'm passing it along as well.

Happy Birthday, Zachary!!

Love,
Grandma

P.S. He loved it!

Long May She Wave Finished and Hung

Hello Blogger Friends,

I've been sewing my fingers to the bone (not really!) and have finished "Long May She Wave" flag wall hanging.  This piece was simply quilted with a line of stitching in the center of each red and cream "stripe" and six stars (outlined)in the blue field.  Because of the curved outer edge, a bias binding sewn down by hand was in order.

Here is a picture of where I have it hanging...on this narrow wall at the top landing of our stairway.  The kitchen is on the other side of the wall.

At last, the ensemble is complete and in place.  I like them and they make me smile.

I'm also happy to report that Dino Dreams is now totally finished.  The birthday party is this coming Sunday, and all is ready to go.  I'll post a picture tomorrow, so I can take it's picture in the daylight.

I've also started my next project...pillowcases for donation to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Madison.  More on that and the story behind the donation next time.

Till then...

Star and Bars Runners Finished

Hello Blog Friends,

Again, apologies that I've been away for a number of days.  Our area was hit with one heck of a storm last week.  The National Weather Service confirmed 5 tornadoes embedded within the storm, along with powerful straight line winds.  The greater Appleton area was without power for several days.  We were without power for 28 hours, so I was unable to sew, access the internet, etc.  There is a lot of damage and cleanup will continue for quite some time.  Here is a photo of some of the tree and power line damage in our town:

I'm happy to report, though, that we as a community, are on the mend.  I've been back to the sewing machine and have finished Stars and Bars  and Stars and Bars II.  Here I'll let the pictures do the talking for me.

I'm hard at work on the flag wall hanging, and hope to have it finished this week as well.  Until then...
