Hall Bathroom Reno Begins

Greetings Blog Friends,

Exciting news...we have begun renovations on our upstairs bathrooms, beginning the the main/hall bath.  It has the largest shower and vanity, so is first up.

Here is a before" shot.

I absolutely hated the ceramic tile and the dark brown paint on the cabinet.  The walls had areas that need repair, too.  This bathroom has taken a beating over the years, but from this ugly duckling a beautiful swan will emerge.

And here is everything on the curb!

Yes, it is not pretty, but has been functional, so was the last item on the reno list.  We have done the demo down to the floor and have begun to install the new. We are doing this work ourselves, except for the shower install.  That, we are leaving to professionals.  They will remove the old tub/shower and install a new shower only, no tub.

So, here is our plan in phases:
Phase 1:  Demo to the floor.  COMPLETED!
Phase 2:  Wall repair, painting, electrical.  COMPLETED!
Phase 3:  Flooring.  Remove old tile flooring, replace with vinyl planking.
COMPLETED!

The floor was the most labor intensive part of this entire job.  Denis had to break the tile with a hammer, then remove a layer of grout, mesh, grout and the original vinyl flooring to get to the plywood subfloor.

Phase 4:  Install new vanity, countertop and fixtures, mirror.
Phase 5:  Replace shower.

Color scheme:  soft browns/neutrals.  Walls are Sherwin-Williams Alabaster (same as rest of house); toilet, sink, shower in an Almond, fixtures in Oil Rubbed Bronze, vanity, and wood trim in Honey Oak.  Towels and accessories in Tans/browns, bronze.

I'll send "after" photos when done!

Till then...

Guest Room Travel Decor

Greeting Blog Friends,

Ever since the guest room was liberated from Denis' desk last September, I've been working on the decor scheme, centered around our Travels.  The walls are a soft yellow, there is a Tiffany-style ceiling light fixture.  The dressers belonged to Denis' parents and the bed covering is one we used on this bed in our previous home.

My vision for this room is Travel.  Travel related items I've purchased or picked up on our travels adorn the walls and dressers.  The bookcase is full of travel related books.  A (future) quilt dedicated to Wisconsin will hang at the head of the bed.  Here are a couple of shots of the room so far:

My sewing plans for this room include:  a bed runner, window valance, pillowcases, pillow shams, throw pillows and a small dresser runner.    All are being made fabric line called World Traveler from Connecting Threads.  They featured this line last year.  A future quilt is also planned from the leftovers.  Here is a sneak peek of the bed runner:

I'll give you a full tour of the room and the accessories next post when everything is all done! (except for the quilt).

Till then...

VINO and More!

Greetings Blog Friends,

This week I have done some small project sewing and have several finishes to share with you.

Remember those wool mat kits?  Well, I now have the spring mat finished and on display as a spring decor item.

I also finished a couple of pillow covers to be donated as a door prize gift at our upcoming scrapbooking retreat in June.  Four fabrics, all from the stash! (three on the front and one for the backing)

VINO letters and wine glasses were cut using my handy Cricut machine, then appliqued with a tight zig-zag stitch.  The upper patterned section was quilted with straight, horizontal lines.  The center square on the other pillow was quilted with a stipple meander and stitch-in-ditch around the inner border.  Each will use an 18" pillow form.

I've been sewing masks also this week, to use up the leftovers from the previous ones.  A quilter/sewist NEVER wastes fabric!  I made a variety of 11 masks, some for Denis and I as backups to ones we have, others for donation.

Exciting news next post...
