Winter Chill Candle Mat

Hello again Blog friends!

Well, we survived the deep freeze of earlier this week.  Denis and I have been busy the past few days putting all our Christmas decorations away for another year.  How empty and blah the house looks!

To perk up my spirits, I've made a cute little candle mat out of blues and white.  It reminds me of the winter scenery outside, of the white blanket of snow against the blue sky.  I have named this piece "Winter Chill".  It is made from a kit I picked up at Antoinette's Quilt Shop  in Plover, WI.  (Click on Antoinettes, then on the Kits tab to see more of these candle mats).  The kits include precut Dresden plate slices, a center cut out, batting and backing fabric.  The shop offers one of these for each month.  This is the first one I have made.  I made this up very quickly, and now it's done!  Isn't it cute?

The mat is 11" finished diameter.

On to the next project.  Hmmmm...what will it be?

  1. Susan, I often check the net for quilting blogs. Love the colorful photos and accompanying stories. I have sewed for years and have stuck my toes into the quilting waters, but mainly stick to wall hangings, table runners, purses, and baby quilts. I've only read a few of your postings and am enjoying them. I am recently retired from my job as a school librarian and high school English teacher and am a couple years older than you, but still fall under the "boomer" label. I have 6 grandchildren, and oh yes, am also a Sue (actually Sue Ann). My blog is called
Thoughts from Mill Street. Although I sometimes write about my sewing projects, usually review books. I'd love to have you visit my site and I will keep visiting yours.
We drive past Plover and Stevens Point all the time when on our way to our cabin up north. I finally made a stop at Antoinette's this November. Loved the many projects they had displayed in the store. I am thinking about a Dresden plate wall hanging for my dining area. I just saw one on Sewing with Nancy that seemed perfect. Happy quilting

  2. Sue Ann,Thanks for the visit to my blog. My very first quilting project was a full size bed quilt for my mom. I've gone from there and have tried new and different techniques and have tried different patterns. Sometimes I use kits, sometimes I pick my own fabrics. It's never to soon to start quilting. I am a "short-timer", and plan to retire in little over 2 years. I can't wait to have more time for sewing and scrapping! I'll return the favor and will visit your blog. I love to read, too! We have so much in common...reading, quilting, Wisconsin, and our first name!
